The Best Is Yet To Be

Filed under: personal — admin @ 12:20 am

Note: I have yet to tell my parents about this since we are waiting for christmas time when boyrobot will join me home and ask my parents for official permission. So if you’re reading this and know my parents, please don’t spoil it!

It’s fitting that I should start this new blog with this post. It’s sort of a marker for this new chapter in my life. In case you haven’t heard yet, I just recently got engaged! After 3 years of an absolutely wild and fun ride, boyrobot got down on one knee and proposed to me. Here’s the story…

We were celebrating our 3 year anniversary. Every year on this special day, we do the same thing. We have a miniature golf date and a nice dinner. The reason for the golf outing is because on the night we became official, we played miniature golf so we’ve been playing it every year on the same day since. I know it’s cheesy!

So anyways, this year we decided to have dinner at Ruth Chris’ because we’re both huge steak lovers and we had heard a lot of good things about this place. During dinner boyrobot tells me that we have to go to the beach afterwards so he can give me his present. I was slightly annoyed because we had promised each other that we wouldn’t get each other presents this year. Now I look like the gimpy gf who actually believed it!!!! I then start to wonder, why do we have to go to the beach? Boyrobot kept insisting we had to go to the beach for the present which made me start to worry. Why the beach? What was at the beach? Did it have something to do with water? The water’s so cold!!! What’s he going to do….I had NO idea…

I then remembered that we like to go see the grunion run every year. In case you don’t know what that is, it’s when fish come onto the shore to lay their eggs. It happens once a year and it’s REALLY cool to see!

So I thought this must be why boyrobot has to take me to the beach for my present. I had totally forgotten about it! At first, boyrobot denies it’s the grunion run but when we get to the beach he tells me I was right…it’s the grunion run! I’m such a good sleuth ;)

So we sit down at our special spot on the beach that we always go to and wait for the grunion. At first, there were all these birds hanging out at the shoreline so I was convinced that they were eating the grunion/eggs and that we had missed them. I had never seen so many birds hanging out at the shoreline like this before. Boyrobot kept convincing me that we had not missed them. But then I started to notice that the tide was very low. When it’s grunion run time, the tide is high so the eggs won’t get washed out by the ocean. Boyrobot tells me I have a good point and that he was just kidding.

WHAT???? Ok…so what are we doing here….?

He then proceeds to whip out a small piece of paper that I had given him 3 years ago as one of his birthday presents. It was a coupon for “1 free wish”. Ha ha, I know….ultimate cheese. He then asks me if I remember this. I vaguely remember. It is my handwriting. Oh great, what is he going to make me do???? I then start to worry…

He then tells me, “My one wish is that you jump in the water”. Now this might seem like a silly request but I actually believed him! We actually have a “jump in the ocean day”. It’s a long story but once a year we go in the water with our clothes on….another silly tradition we have. So anyways, I wasn’t too surprised when he asked me to do that although I thought it was a waste of a free wish! I gave up some protest though since the water looked like it might be cold. He then tells me he’s just kidding again. Man, what’s going on here!

He then tells me the sweetest thing, “I’ve been saving this all of these years for this moment”. He then gets down on one knee and asks me to marry him. His one wish was that I say yes.

I say, “Are you kidding me???????????” haha

but with tears in my eyes. I barely even look at the ring, but I definitely say YES! Without a doubt, I can’t imagine anyone more fun, caring, and loving to grow old with! I know a lot of people who know us, especially the ones that knew us separately before we got together were very surprised when we did get together. We somewhat seem mismatched. Boyrobot is the loud extrovert while I am the quiet introvert. But for some reason we work really well.

A lot of people have asked me how I felt in that moment. It was truly the most surreal moment in my life. It literally felt like a dream. It was a total surprise for me and I couldn’t believe it had just happened. I probably said “OMG I can’t believe this” about 1000 times that night. It was also a very happy moment in my life. I feel anxious and scared but excited and hopeful.

I am most happy that my friends and family fully support this. It means a lot to me that they do because I trust their judgement and if they approve, then something must be right! The kind words people have shared after hearing the news has just been so heartwarming and incredible. I had no idea the perception people had of us as a couple until now. It’s a wonderful feeling to know people believe in our relationship as much as boyrobot and I do!

Anyways, that was the proposal. It was simple, sweet, and heartfelt. Exactly how I would have wanted it.
