MTV Spoof: Over The Hills

I heard about this on Kiis FM one morning. It’s pretty funny if you’ve ever watched The Hills. This version is redone by senior citizens acting out the exact lines from the show.

Improv Everywhere

Filed under: Cool Links, Fun — girlrobot @ 8:18 am

I love this group! I’ve been following them ever since I read about one of their MP3 experiments. They are a group of random people who pull “pranks” in public places. A lot of the times, people like me and you can help get involved!

One of their most famous events was when they froze Grand Central (they gathered a bunch of people who stopped what they were doing at a predetermined time in the middle of Grand Central and also when they organized the national No Pants subway ride. Click on the links to read more about it. You can see all of their “missions” here.

Their latest one was so cute and right by where I work! They turned a little league game into a major league event. They even got legendary sportscaster Jim Gray to call the game and NBC sports to get involved. All of the kids and the parents had no idea what was going on but they really enjoyed it. Check out the letter that one of the parents wrote in:

I believe you guys are behind the “Hermosa Beach Little League” taping that took place Saturday, March 10th, 2007. The parents will be talking about this for a long time… the kids even longer. My son was a pitcher on the Lugnuts. We had a long/tough season last year. Saturday made up for everything. I want to sincerely thank you for making Saturday so unbelievable. It was like a birthday, Christmas, and New Years Eve captured in a few amazing hours. Thanks a million for a once in a lifetime opportunity.

You can watch the video and read all about the details here.

Next time they have a mission in LA, I’m totally down to get involved. Who’s with me!? :)

Brain Dump Mondays: Recovering From Vegas

Filed under: Fun — girlrobot @ 12:28 pm

This past weekend I went to a bachelorette party in Las Vegas for an old high school friend. Gosh, it was SO great meeting up with old friends!!! I forgot how silly and great they all are. I have no pics to show since I didn’t take my camera but I figured everybody else would and I would get my pics from them. Until then….the highlights in words:

- Partying it up with KFed at Pure! haha, ok…we didn’t actually party with him but he happened to be having his birthday party at Pure while we were there. Pics to come….

- Learning about The Dolphin and other terms

- Getting my eyebrows threaded for the first time! Painful!

- Eating the buffet at Planet Hollywood….the lambchops and raw oysters were so good!

- Shopping!

- Catching up on all of the old hs gossip

- Reminiscing about our hs days and our awesome lunch time adventures!

- Staying at a suite in The Venetian which was probably the best hotel I’ve stayed at in Vegas

- Making new friends!!

Man, I came back from Vegas and just slept for over 12 hours straight. I was SO tired. And now I’m at work and just as tired. Ughghg, I wanna go home!

Brain Dump Mondays: The Magic Castle

Filed under: Fun — girlrobot @ 8:58 am

Last week I finally got to go to the Magic Castle. In case you don’t know what that is, it’s a private magic club that you can only get in if you are invited by a magician. Unfortunately, I do not know any magicians personally. Instead, we heard from a friend that a new website, Things To Do LA, was hosting an event there so we signed up through that. I’m not sure if they are going to do it again or not but check out the website if you are looking for things to do around LA.

Anyways, I thought the whole Magic Castle experience was pretty cool. When you first enter the building, you say the magic words “abracadabra” and a bookshelf opens letting you inside. Once inside, it’s like a huge maze. There’s a pretty nice restaurant inside (we didn’t get a chance to eat but maybe next time!) and then there’s a bunch of rooms where you can watch different magic acts. There are also a bazillion bars everywhere to help you get liquored up! When we first got there, we watched a show by Joe Stilton. OMG, this guy is so amazing. He also looks like Jim Carey! He was the best magician I’ve ever seen. If you are looking for a magician to perform at an event, you must get this guy. I love Joe! (I never thought I’d say that about a magician, but seriously everybody was so impressed by him.) Not only is a great magician but he is also a great performer and entertainer. He had us laughing the whole time.

Unfortunately, the other shows we watched didn’t compare to Joe. The ones we saw used a lot more “props” than illusions so it didn’t seem as impressive to us. They were still good though. Also, every week there are a different set of magicians performing so who knows what/who you will see.

Luckily, that night they held a raffle and one of our friends got a 1 month membership and he can invite up to 8 guests so we will probably go again. If you are really desperate, you can try going to a magic shop and befriending a magician like this article suggests.

PS. Also wanted to mention Happy St. Patrick’s Day!!! I made corned beef and cabbage using this recipe from Slashfood. The meat was so much more tender than the one I made last year! Thumbs up for this recipe. (Just make sure you don’t mind Guinness since you can definitely taste it in the meat).

Also, I finally got around to making No Knead Bread. It came out pretty good! I can’t wait to put in whole garlic cloves in my next bread. At first I was intimidated to try it but it really is that easy! Love it.

I Survived A Relationship With A Vietnamese/Korean Girl

Filed under: Fun — girlrobot @ 12:03 am

That’s the name of a Facebook Group! I had no idea.

Description:

A support group for those who are/have been in a relationship with a Vietnamese/Korean girl, who are known to be traditionally the most violent of all Asian women.

You are invited to share horror stories, offer support and advice to others.

“I remember I was visiting a Vietnamese ex girlfriend once cause I wanted to get my XBox controller back. She wanted me to stay for just 15 minutes, but I told her politely I had a schedule to keep. When she met me outside, she threw the XBox controller at my head with the accuracy of a shuriken throwing ninja. The relationship ended by the time I had regained consciousness.”

My very own true story.

They are like cigarettes. You know they’re bad for you, but you can’t say no.

BTW I’m vietnamese and I’m not violent. Just angry. >:P

Parents Tricks Kid Into Thinking He Got An XBOX For Xmas

Filed under: Fun — girlrobot @ 8:00 am

This video was actually sort of painful to watch: Parents stuff an XBOX with clothes and give it to their kid.

But then I went to the video page and read that it was just a joke since the kid sneaked a peak at the gifts the night before and that he actually does end up getting an XBOX. phew! One of the funniest comments I read on the video was “and thus a serial killer was born” heheh.

Brain Dump Mondays: I’m Back!

Filed under: Fun, Personal — girlrobot @ 12:17 am

Sorry this is late but I got in last night so had no time to post this but better late than never! The trip was a blast and I wish we had more time to see everything. Some highlights:

The White House (no sightings of Bush though :()

The Capitol

Supreme Court (yes that little black speck is boyrobot!)

Lincoln Memorial

Seeing the panda bears at the zoo…AMAZING. I swear they look like men in panda bear suits!

Another cool animal we saw at the zoo..the HIPPO! And we got to see it during it’s feeding time!

I lovedlovedloved the subway system in DC. Why can’t LA be like this???

I ate raw oysters and escargots (not pictured here) for the first time! I decided snails aren’t my thing though.

Washington Monument

Not pictured here:

Georgetown - hip area with tons of restaurants and shopping. We ate at Old Glory BBQ which had to die for cornbread…MMMM

Smithsonian - we loved visiting the museums, especially the air and space museum. Since we work in the space industry it was just cool to see everything. We also checked out an IMAX showing of a space station in 3D that was narrated by Tom Cruise. It was awesome. If you visit and it’s showing, definitely check it out! But skip the planetarium showing of Infinity Express….we both fell asleep.

Chinatown - I was really disappointed with DC’s chinatown. But it was interesting in that they have a lot of normal stores but with signs in chinese like Ann Taylor and Bed Bath and Beyond. But when I go to chinatown, I want to see REAL chinese stores….like the ones that sell cheap souvenirs! heeheh. Plus, it was way small.

Five Guys and Potbelly’s Sandwiches - Five Guys is supposed to be the best burger in DC. I thought it was good but that InNOut was better. Potbelly’s was pretty good! I would definitely eat there again.

You can check out my flickr set for the rest of the pics.
