Today I was stuck all day on an airplane. I’m reallllllllly tired.
Just wanted to make a quick note that I finally saw Twilight and I’m glad everyone told me how bad the movie was. I went in thinking it was going to be the worst thing ever! You can’t really get disappointed if your expectations were as low as mine. I actually thought it was an entertaining movie!
This was a super tiring weekend. I don’t really remember much of saturday but yesterday was spent all day at a friend’s wedding. It started out with a tea ceremony at 10:30am and continued onto a regular church ceremony and then a reception…all on a Sunday!
Anyways, I’m pooped. Getting dressed up and wearing heels all day does not suit me at all.
Eat more greens - I think I need to start eating more salads at lunch.
Exercise - a constant on my list. I stopped walking the stairs at work…gonna start that up again!
take care of my skin - my sister bought me one of these dermalogica skin care kits and she highly recommends it. I really need to start a daily skin care regimen now that I’m getting all old and stuff. :(
volunteering - for the past year I didn’t do any volunteering. I am thinking about joining Reading Partners since I love kids, reading, and there is a school right by my work! Any other fun volunteering activites out there?
learn a new skill - I haven’t decided what this is yet. I do want to learn embossing though and play around with some designs for my wedding programs!
get more involved with politics - this last election really excited a lot of people including me. before I didn’t care about politics because I didn’t feel like it affected me that much. Now I see how important voting is, especially when it comes to these propositions! I want to be more knowledgable about issues that are being voted on so that I can make a more informed decision on how I vote. I also want to know more about these elected officials that are supposed to represent me.
I need to take more pictures. My camera is seriously getting dusty and my weekend recap posts might be a little more interesting with pictures to go with it!
Start xmas shopping early. Every year I wait til the last minute to buy my xmas gifts and then regret that I didn’t start earlier so I could be on the lookout for hot deals. Right now you can get 25% cashback on any ebay buy it now auction if you use live.com. This literally equates to getting anything you want for 25% off…I just tried it and it works! Why am I not buying all of my xmas gifts right now?
Do more wedding planning. Ever since we pushed our date back 2 months, I’ve been procrastinating on anything wedding related. We have our save the dates done, we just need to send them out. Why can’t I just hit send? (They’re electronic save the dates hehe). Not to mention the millions of other things I could be working on for our wedding.
Bring my lunch to work. For awhile I was obsessed with bento boxes. I still am actually. I pore over bento pictures and recipes everyday and bookmark them for future lunches. Have I made one yet? Nope. I really need to start bringing my lunch more often. It forces me to eat healthier (instead of opting for a fast food lunch) and controls the amount I eat.
This weekend I went house shopping again. We probably won’t seriously start looking to actually buy until the beginning of next year but it’s good to see what type of houses are available and what type of house we can afford. It is encouraging to see many houses have dropped as much as 100K in the area we are looking at. I only hope it drops more by the time we will buy!! From what I have read/heard, it is a strong possibility.
Anyways, all of this house buying business gets me so excited about the things I will do in my future house. I just can’t wait to have a place all my own…to decorate and use as I please!!!!! Here are the things I am looking forward to:
- growing plants…mainly herbs and who knows, maybe I will try my hand at something floral. I’ve had this link bookmarked forever about growing arugula in your kitchen. I love how it can be used as a salad green (love my salads!) or as an herb. It’s supposed to be SUPER easy to grow as well. I would also love to have some home grown basil in my kitchen!
-dinner parties. Every once in awhile I get in the mood to to do some major cooking. I have a huge backlog of recipes that I have been meaning to cook. I can’t wait to have my very own kitchen fully stocked with the best kitchen gadgets and high end pots and pans. I’ve refrained from spending too much on my kitchen stuff while being in college and living in apts since I’ve always had limited storage.
-having a general hangout spot. Boyrobot and I love hanging out with our friends. We will always have an open door policy with all of our friends. One of our main goals in buying a house is having a room soley known as “the game room”! We imagine it having a nice table where we can play our many boardgames or poker and a sweet LCD hanging on the wall to watch our many movies. I am also on the goal to find the most comfortable couch in the world. Tell me if you sit in one!
- throwing themed parties. I love themed parties! Well mostly food themed parties hehe. My old roommate threw a make your own pizza and make your own taco party that was really fun. We’ve also had a successful crawfish boil and dip party. My sister just told me about her frito chili party (everyone gets a bag of frito chilis and she supplies a variety of toppings and you eat everything out of the bag!).
- buying a bike and biking to the beach regularly. Right now I don’t really want to buy a bike because I have nowhere to store it and no bike rack in case I need to move it. But every once in awhile me and boyrobot go to his brother’s house and I borrow his sister-in-law’s bike and we bike to the beach and just layout on the grass (there is a grassy area at the beach! I hate sand haha). It’s so fun and relaxing and I feel like I’m getting such good exercise when I bike. I can’t wait to be able to do this on a regular basis with my OWN bike!
Ok I have many more things I’m excited about but this is getting long enough! AHHH can’t wait!
After a week of headaches and frustration, we decided to change our wedding date! It’s now 08/08/09. And the change was all so we could have the ceremony here:
Earl Burns Miller Japanese Garden
Hopefully it’s worth it. We had to change our reception to a questionable restaurant. It’s new so I haven’t read any wedding reception reviews about the place which makes me a little nervous. Is the food going to be ok? And the service? Blah….I’m a worrywart. Hopefully everything will be ok!
Nothing feels better than a shower after 3 days without one.
Nothing feels better than your own nice, soft bed after sleeping on the hard, cold ground.
Does that mean I would take the weekend back? No way! This past weekend was our annual camping trip that we go on with our friends. Each year a different couple organizes it and this year it was at Sequoia National Park. Despite the horrible, rainy weather on saturday…the place was BEAUTIFUL! We had the best campsite ever too! Right next to a picturesque stream and a whole corner to ourselves. It felt so private.
Saturday we hiked to the General Sherman Tree which is the biggest tree in the world (volume wise). It was quite impressive. The hike was also really nice and the weather was cool and perfect for hiking.
Another cool thing about the trip was the amount of wildlife we saw: a bear, coyote, and a deer! One morning we woke up to find bear poop near our tent, which means a bear was in our campsite while we were sleeping!! Creepy!
The best part of the trip was the FOOD. We have a really cool friend that always goes camping with us named Paul who always handles the food. This year was the best ever. We had the usual hamburgers and hot links but also bratwurst, carne asada and chicken tacos, eggs, bacon, sausage, and even pancakes! Everything was SO YUM! Some people also made brownies and rice crispies treats and not to mention the gazillion snacks we had. And nothing beats the banana boats and smores we make over the open fire.
I think despite this being the worst weather-wise camping trip I feel like I truly love camping now. I’m not scared about “roughing it”…well at least for less than 3 days ha ha. I can’t wait for the next one!
(Pictures to come later since I’m waiting to get them from friends)
Today was a super lazy day. I didn’t interact with anyone and did not even leave my condo. I don’t think I uttered a single word today which is a weird feeling. BUT I’ve been working on a lot of wedding stuff. Mostly researching vendors and contacting them for price quotes. I’ve also almost finished our website. Now we just need to finalize our Save The Dates. When I get back, I have to meet with our possible future MC, florist, and hair/makeup person. Sigh.
With all of this wedding planning, I feel like I haven’t had time to give as much attention to all of my blogs. It’s taken all I can muster just to keep this one updated daily as best I can. It does help seeing my RSS feed number finally break 100 though! :)
One last note, has anyone seen that new MTV show Exiled? It’s a show about the Sweet Sixteen girls getting sent to some far off place, being on their own, and having to do actual work. The episode I saw, the girl got to go to the Artic Circle in Norway and be a reindeer herder. She got to learn how to ride a snowmobile, go ice fishing, and see the reindeer migration. The whole time she was whining and all I could think was what an AMAZING, once in a life time experience! Where do I sign up? I actually looked into it and turns out only 14 people are invited to go on this awesome trek a year: Saami Reindeer Migration. Very cool!
It’s nice to make these lists every once in awhile to remind yourself of the good things!
- Not living in a hurricane zone like Florida or Texas. It’s so dreadful looking at the pictures from Ike.
- Good thai food…I think thai food is slowly becoming my favorite food (next to Japanese!). I just had some excellent thai at SEA thai in Orlando. Yummy!
- Thankful for the chance to come to Florida again so that I might once again have some yummy Jeremiah’s gelati!!!
- my sister who is sending me a box of GOODIES and TREATS. for no reason whatsoever! I can’t wait to get it!
- my fiance. i always find myself thinking “wow, i’m so glad i’m marrying him!” when he does or says something really nice or is patient when I’m stressed out ha ha
- mapquest and their “no tollroads” feature. i’ve discovered a way to avoid the toll roads when I drive into and out of Orlando with this feature. 80% of the time it takes the same amount of time/distance to avoid the toll roads!
Lusting: the new Dell Inspiron Mini 9
Small, low power, and inexpensive. It’s a portable blogger’s dream! And did I mention it’s only $350? And weighs less than 2.5lbs? And boots up in 45 seconds? It’s no Apple, but at that price….who cares? I’m sold!
Listening: You Don’t Know Me by Ben Folds Ft. Regina Spektor
I forgot how much I loooove Ben Folds!
Buying: Cherish Mary Jane Flat in red
I never thought I would buy red shoes but these mary janes were calling me. It didn’t help that they were only 21.99 from Payless!
Playing: Wii Fit
I finally got the Wii Fit from my awesome sister. I’m hopeful that this will help me become more fit as I’m the biggest couch potato ever. So far it’s been pretty fun! And I actually am a bit sore!!
Watching: Dark Knight
I think I’m one of the last people to see this but I finally did. After all of the hype, I thought it was good but not that good. I was disappointed with the ending and I don’t remember Christian Bale’s gruff voice being so….gruff. It was kind of annoying. Also, I was hoping The Joker would be a little bit more senile/scary. I did love the part when Heath says “why so serious” though.
Eating: Blackberry pie from the farmer’s market in Solvang
omg! this was the best pie ever. I wish I had taken note of the stand I bought it from
I’m back from my travels and I thought I would have time to make a real post for today but I don’t so hear are some musings from the past few days:
I got bird pooped on for the first time. This was while I was at Niagara Falls. Everybody immediately told me how it’s such good luck to get pooped on. I think someone made that up to make the pooped-ee feel better. Of course, who was I to argue so I proceeded to the nearby casino where I bet black and yes, I won!. Apparently it only works on the first bet though because I lost the bet after that.
And on another completely irrelevant note, yesterday boyrobot took me to The Hitching Post for dinner for my birthday where I had grilled artichokes. This is only my 2nd time eating real artichokes (not the canned ones or the dip) and I think it’s safe to say…artichokes may be my favorite vegetable ever! What is it about it….I’m smitten!
And while I was in Toronto, I tried poutine (fries covered with cheese curds + gravy) so now I can cross that off my omnivore 100 list!
Also, boyrobot bought me the cutest little robot. I can’t wait to share pictures of it and the rest of my adventures. Maybe on the next monday brain dump :)
As some of you may know I’m turning the big 29 on Wednesday. It was kind of depressing to think how in 1 year, I’ll be the bigger 3-0! It just sounds so….old. I don’t usually want to throw a big get-together for my birthday but I was thinking how boyrobot (who will also be 30 next year) and I should have a big party. Do you like how I’m already thinking 1 year in advance? ha ha.
So anyways, I’m not a typical “party” goer. So in lieu of a birthday party, I wanted to throw a weekend summer camp thing. The theme would be “30 going on 13″. You like?? haha….I’m such a dork.
So anyways, I was looking up campsites and stuff and you can totally rent cabins just like the kind you went to for summer camps when you were a kid. I totally want to reenact the whole experience. They even feed you meals…and it’s so cheap! Like less than 50 bucks a day. Some campsites totally cater to groups and have different activities you can do like swimming/kayaking, ropes course, archery, etc. At night, we could have a huge bonfire and tell ghost stories. HOW FUN IS THAT!?
One camp I went to when I was younger had the most awesome scavenger hunt. I would love to do something like that as well. Also, I remembered the girls and boys would always play pranks against each other. Summer camp is awesome.
So yeah, I have big plans for next year. I wonder how many people would go? I would open it up to pretty much everyone me and boyrobot knows (including my blog readers if anyone would be willing to come spend a uber dorkfest weekend with me :)) and of course people could invite their friends as well. The more strangers the better! It would be like real camp where you can meet new people too!
Anyways, it’s all an idea for now. I have my wedding to plan as well next year so I don’t know how feasible it is to plan this as well haha. If enough people are interested, I will definitely work on making it a reality!
Every year I go on a fishing trip to Mammoth Lakes. Every year I NEVER catch any fish….except for this year!!!!! Man, I was on such a roll this trip. I don’t know what happened. I actually caught the limit I’m allowed to catch (6) and would have probably caught more if I didn’t stop! I must say fishing is a lot more fun when you’re actually catching fish.
We rented our usual cabin and got a pontoon for the whole day on Lake Mary. It was a fun and relaxing weekend. Too bad we only go once a year! I will post pictures when I get a copy of them.
*edit Here’s a pic of just a FEW of the fish I caught ;)
