Monday Brain Dump: Weddings Are Tiresome

I’m so pooped. I wonder if all of my weekends are going to feel like this until August 8. If you’re not rich and trying to DIY as much as you can to save money….weddings are so much work!!!!

A part of me wants to try and make this the coolest wedding ever.

The other part of me is way too lazy to do that. And is it really worth the effort? Noone is going to notice the little things I do that took me HOURS to finish. Honestly.

Right now we’re on wedding invitations. I have all of these neat ideas/thoughts but then when you think about it…nobody really cares about the invitation. It’s just a piece of paper. They might go ooh that’s nice for like 5 seconds but in the end, noone appreciates all of the hard work you might have put into it! Freaking nice invitations are so expensive too!

My dream invitations would be letterpressed. I think letterpress is SO pretty!!! But they are like 7 to 15 bucks A PIECE (if you add the invitation, reception, and rsvp card together and want a decent design)! I could buy a book for that price. A best seller! I think people would appreciate that more than a wedding invitation! Am I right?? But gosh those $10+ wedding invitations are so beautiful. At this point, we are thinking of just going with white invitations and having them thermographed (raised printing). Slap a bow on it and call it a day. (and pray that people even noticed we bothered with the nicer printing!)

Another headache for me is the centerpiece. Right now I am wondering if I can get away with a no flowers centerpiece by using our wedding favors and arranging them in the middle of the table with some flower petals or something. I HATE wedding centerpieces. It seems like such a waste to me. I am having a chinese banquet style reception so they literally take the centerpiece away when the reception starts and they serve the food! You want me to pay $50+/table for something people will see for 15 minutes???

This is my DREAM centerpiece. As a wedding guest, I would truly enjoy this. It won’t go so well with my chinese banquet though ha ha.

Bread + herbs + spreads…add me some olive oil and balsamic vinegar and I’m in heaven!

So in my head….I have this most amazing wedding planned. But in reality, my time and wallet is saying NO. All I can say is I can’t wait until August 9th.

I agree with you. Don’t forget that people are there for you and your dude and anyone who worries about the quality of the invitation or the centerpiece should just mail back the invitation unopened.

I’ve been to a few weddings and I remember the quality of the food more than anything. If you’re trying to decide where to spend the money, put it there. If the food is tasty people won’t care if it’s on china or served out of a trough.

i know what you mean about stressing over the details… the details people don’t even notice! i feel for you, hehe.

try not to stress too much on the invitations. of course everyone would love to send out beautiful invitations, but sometimes overly beautiful invitations will set the mood for the event. which means, if the the invite is too awesome people might expect a reception equally as expensive. and most of the time, i don’t know what to do with the invitation once it’s done. but if the invite is creative and different, it will get noticed :)

and honestly i don’t think you need to stress too much over the centerpieces either… especially since it is banquet style. something really simple would suffice, or maybe a cute decorated table number would be enough! people usually remember the food… always, haha.

p.s. i still need to claim an activity to help you with. i forgot to look it over again this weekend!

at my sisters wedding they had soft pretzels made into letters of their first names and hearts. She also had the rocky theme song played by a small string section, the music started right after they were pronounced husband and wife it was awesome! We are from philadelphia.

Check out this link to a DIY wedding site if you haven’t already. This gal is amazing and she’s located in the O.C. And don’t forget to breathe……

Have you thought about doing that centerpiece but putting out vietnamese banh trang with black sesame seeds, white sesame seeds, plain…sweet potato – I think they have all sorts of flavor and you could put little vases of flowers that are blue and yellow.

what about naming each table with a Chinese word (having an enlarged symbol and interpretation) and then a different photo of you and your finance’… I’ve seen the photo part at numerous weddings and it’s adorable- maybe words of love, marriage, soulmate etc. would be a nice accompaniment
