A Robot Wedding Part 3: The Reception Setup & Details
And now for our pride and joy….this is where we showcase all of the hard work we did. And yes…it was definitely a team project. Boyrobot was a hands on groom…in fact, I think he enjoyed it more than I did! :) Our reception was held at Empress Pavilion by the way.
All of the flowers and bouquets from the day were made by my talented aunts, sister, and cousins. I was so amazed with how beautiful everything was!
Our guestbook was made using Blurb (highly recommend!). Every page had a picture or memento from all of our years of dating. I had a page with all of the cards we’ve given each other, a ticket stub from our first movie date, our golf score cards from every anniversary (we play miniature golf every year because mini golf was our first date!), etc.
Our placecards doubled as raffle tickets. On one side was the guest’s name and their table number. The other side said “Ticket” and both sides had a number. Guests were told to tear off one half and drop it into their choice of three raffle prizes: A $100 Target gift card, a Canon digital camera, or an iPod Touch. (yes….you can only pick one! :P). We perforated each one of those suckers…it was a lot more time consuming than you think! We had our cute little ring bearer pick the winning numbers.
Drinks – We were sad that our restaurant didn’t allow us to bring our own alcohol but they said we could have wine, beer, and they let us put a bottle of Remy Martin on each table. We provided a bunch of different types of beers including Corona, Fat Tire, Samuel Adams, Heineken, and some more obscure ones that I don’t remember the names of. Hopefully, everyone was able to find something they liked! We also created a Bellini Bar with mango or guava puree which we found out afterwards we didn’t buy enough of :( So sad! We had tons of sparkling wine and champagne left over because of that.
We also had a Wish Jar where guests could write down a wish or piece of advice for us. We are saving to read them on our 1 year anniversary. I am *dying* to read them!! By the way, our original wish jar broke when we were setting up…somebody, I think one of the groomsman, bought this glass box from somewhere nearby thank goodness!!
For entertainment, we made a giant crossword puzzle with questions having to do with boyrobot and I. We made sure that a single person couldn’t answer all of them and had questions from our childhood, work, and current trivia about ourselves and our relationship. When we made it, we thought nobody would be geeky enough to enjoy it but we hear it got filled up pretty quickly! I guess we should have made it harder!
We also got a photobooth which was the best investment we made because I think our guests had the most fun with this. We got some really great photos! If anyone would like a digital copy of theirs, please email me and I can hook you up with one since we got copies of everybody’s. We also provided some props which included giant sunglasses, clown noses, and those mustaches I blogged about a long time ago. I had to include some of our favorite photobooth pictures.
Lastly, we have our favors. We actually had 3 things:
1 inch buttons that said “Better Together” and had images of things we like together like bacon and eggs. I also had to include a robot one :) It was cool…everybody was wearing them at the reception!
Custom Jones Sodas: We made 5 different bottles. Each one had a different picture and a fun fact about ourselves on the back. We designed, printed, and glued these on all ourselves so we were really happy with how they turned out.
And lastly, we gave each guest a mix CD. Boyrobot lightscribed 300 of these….there were 5 designs total. This was one of the most time consuming projects ever! Boyrobot was quite the lightscribing machine by the end of this ordeal.
Here is the playlist:

Hi,
Your wedding looks amazing! My daughter is getting married in August and she loves the “better together” buttons you had made. Can you please tell me where you got them? Thanks so much,

You are so creative that it’s no surprise you created your own images for those darling buttons. They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery so if you would be willing to share your designs with us, we would be thrilled to use them! Thank you so much! Did it take a long time to get them shipped to you? Emily’s wedding is August 13th but she is trying very hard to stay on schedule and get as much done as possible beforehand…I’m sure you can relate. I know you are a very busy person so whenever you have the time to send them to me that would be wonderful.
Thanks so much and have a lovely day,
Maureen :)

Hot damn. It seems like you guys threw one heckuva wedding. Congrats.
Be careful about the crossword puzzles though. Making them can be addictive as my dad can attest.
