This story is so awesome. I think I read an article about it awhile back but I never bothered to read the whole story. It’s 4 pages long and I read every word. It was great!
To sum it up:
1. Guy wants to sell his powerbook on ebay
2. Nigerian scam type guy from the UK wants to buy it from him using a fake escrow service
3. Guy decides to play a prank back at the guy by shipping him a fake powerbook

If the scammer accepts the package, he has to pay the customs fees for it which is about $550
4. The whole time the guy has enlisted the help of the Something Awful forums. They donate money to ship the item and go so far as to stake out the place that is the package’s destination which turns out to be some guy’s barbershop/internet cafe.
5. Scammer accepts the package, gets pissed he got played, tries to send him an email virus, and orchestrates a denial of service attack on the guy’s webpage.
6. Guy disappears and is never heard from again. (WTF!)

I’m a Chowhound convert. I used to use Yelp for all of my foodie selections but after being disappointed again and again, I started using Chowhound…the well known website for FOOD SNOBS! I’m not a food snob, but I’ve found that the reviews and suggestions are a lot more on target there. The only bad part about Chowhound is that it’s a forum rather than a review site. So it’s harder to find places by category/location. I usually just use their search tool to find types of food I’m interested in. It’s always interesting to look at the most recent posts….sometimes you’ll find an interesting topic and discover a restaurant/type of food that you never even knew existed in Los Angeles (or wherever you live). Anyways, for all the foodies out there….I present you some useful Chowhound links (for the LA area since that’s where I’m from. Bookmark it! if you’re from out of town…you never know when you’ll be visiting!)

Wikis are everywhere and there is one for everything nowadays. Here are some of my favorites:

Wikipedia - Everybody knows about this website by now. It’s always the first place I check when I want to research/read more info about something. It’s mostly right. :)
WikiTravel - I’ve blogged about this website before but it’s worth mentioning again. Great resource for travelers!
WikiHow - Another one I link to a lot. This pretty much has a howto for everything.
CookbookWiki - everything to do with food and cooking…includes recipes, howtos, and tips
Wikimapia - This is a cool google mashup that lets people make comments about anyplace in the world.
Uncyclopedia - this is the funny/sarcastic version of wikipedia. always good for a laugh.
Lostpedia - must read for lost fans
Mentat Wiki - this one is pretty cool. it has different methods on thinking and gives you tips for studying/memorizing. Great if you’re still in school.
TripAdvisor compiled a list of the top destinations based from their reviews. As you know, I love traveling and TripAdvisor is always one of the websites I check so I know this list should be pretty good. I’ve been to Kyoto and Machu Picchu….both are amazing. I can’t wait to see the rest!!!
Here are the #1 spots for each category:

So this weekend, I saw the much hyped Forgetting Sarah Marshall. I’m a huge Apatow fan (Knocked Up, Superbad, Freaks and Geeks!!!) and I loved everyone starring in the movie…how could it not be the best movie ever!? Well….perhaps it was a bit too hyped for me. I just thought it was ok. It made me laugh…but it was definitely not as good as any of his other movies. Definitely worth a rental though. :)

Speaking of which, have you guys been redboxing it? I’ve been watching free movies ever since I blogged about it. The redbox near my house is so popular too. I always see people coming or going with redbox movies! Love the service. The only bad thing about it is you can’t rent old movies. I just found this list of 300 movies you must see before you die and the best films that never won a best picture oscar. Now I must see them all!!!
In case you haven’t heard, Wii Fit is finally going to be released in the US on May 19th!!! I’m excited but also kind of hesitant to buy it since I’m not sure how effective it will really be. But after reading these reviews, at the least…it sounds entertaining! There is even a guy tracking his weight loss here.

Some links to in depth reviews:
Kotaku - seems to like it but brought up a point that his favorite game the hula hoop is very hard on the knees (that’s not good!!). really likes the yoga portion.
85% from Spong - pretty positive review and more details about the individual games
One month with Wii Fit on Wired - losing weight, exercising more…thumbs up
It sounds like people generally like it. I just worry if I will get bored with it after a few months.
I love this group! I’ve been following them ever since I read about one of their MP3 experiments. They are a group of random people who pull “pranks” in public places. A lot of the times, people like me and you can help get involved!
One of their most famous events was when they froze Grand Central (they gathered a bunch of people who stopped what they were doing at a predetermined time in the middle of Grand Central and also when they organized the national No Pants subway ride. Click on the links to read more about it. You can see all of their “missions” here.
Their latest one was so cute and right by where I work! They turned a little league game into a major league event. They even got legendary sportscaster Jim Gray to call the game and NBC sports to get involved. All of the kids and the parents had no idea what was going on but they really enjoyed it. Check out the letter that one of the parents wrote in:
I believe you guys are behind the “Hermosa Beach Little League” taping that took place Saturday, March 10th, 2007. The parents will be talking about this for a long time… the kids even longer. My son was a pitcher on the Lugnuts. We had a long/tough season last year. Saturday made up for everything. I want to sincerely thank you for making Saturday so unbelievable. It was like a birthday, Christmas, and New Years Eve captured in a few amazing hours. Thanks a million for a once in a lifetime opportunity.
You can watch the video and read all about the details here.
Next time they have a mission in LA, I’m totally down to get involved. Who’s with me!? :)
