Scientific Myths Debunked
I just read a cool article about common myths and if they are true or not. Maybe you were wondering about a few of these yourself:
– Can a chicken live without its head? TRUE! They stated that there was even one that lived for 18 months….crazy!
– Hair and fingernails continue growing after dead. FALSE.
– Eating a poppy seed bagel mimics opium use. TRUE. No poppy seed bagels before your next drug test!!
– Dropping a penny from a tall building could kill a pedestrian. FALSE. Won’t do that much harm.
– It takes 7 years to digest gum. FALSE. Just a wives’ tale to keep kids from swallowing their gum.
Go to this link to read more myths!
I also found another cool blog that answers some common questions/myths: i did not know that yesterday

Yes, well, let’s get this straight, as I’m tired of hearing about this chicken myth. The truth is that this happened ONCE, and it was pure miracle that it lived. First of all, a chicken will bleed to death in seconds after a decapitation, and it will starve to death besides. In the one case of Mike the chicken, only half his head was cut off, leaving the brain stem, and very lucky bloodclot formed preventing a bleed out. The owner fed the headless chicken constantly with an eyedropper to keep it alive for, indeed, 18 months.
But its not as if this is a common occurence, its like the one lady who survived falling out of a plane at 30,000 feet. Yeah, it happened….but I wouldnt try it.
Its not as if every chicken whose head cut off leads a productive life.
