Brain Dump Mondays: Uninspired

Throughout the week, I’m always like…ooooh I should totally blog about this or that. Then when Monday (or Sunday night) rolls around, I completely draw a blank. I have nothing to say. What did I do all weekend? Nothing exciting. Well I did try a Colombian hot dog for the first time (a hot dog with pineapples, crushed potato chips, mayo, ketchup, and who knows what else. trust me, it worked.) And I also went swimming! But it was by myself. And I don’t even know how to swim so it was more like waddling around the 4 ft deep pool. See? Not exciting at all.

So help me out here. Is there anything you want to know about me? I would say most of the people who subscribe to this blog don’t know me in real life. Perhaps there is something you are wondering about me. If so, leave a comment and I’ll share it in my next brain dump!

RIP Randy Pausch

Randy Pausch, the college professor who became famous for his “last lecture” has passed away. :(

Dollar Store Hack

I’m a big fan of those discount stores…99 cent store, dollar tree, big lots, etc. This new blog I’ve discovered, dollar store hack, is so much fun! Everything featured is made from items bought at a dollar store. For example:

chandelier

placemats made from rulers

knick knack wall holder made from ice cream scoopers

So inspirational! See the rest here.

Bundle Wrapping Packing

I used to think I was pretty good at packing my suitcase. My sister taught me the rolling method a few years ago and I’ve been using it ever since. I had no idea that the new more efficient way of packing is the “bundle method”. Here is a link to a nice diagram on bundle wrapping.

This method supposedly creates less wrinkles in your clothes and takes up less space. Great since pretty much all of the airlines are starting to charge for checked luggage.

Here is a detailed description on how to bundle wrap your clothes. The main gist is to wrap the items that are least susceptible to wrinkles in the middle and work your way outwards. For example, clothes should be wrapped in this order, starting from the outer layer:

1) jacket
2) skirts, dresses (a particularly long, straight dress or skirt might be better placed before the jacket)
3) long-sleeved shirts
4) short-sleeved shirts
5) slacks
6) sweater, knits
7) shorts

The core should be something like an organizer pouch holding your undergarments/socks etc.

These are the things you care about when you travel a lot!

Brain Dump Mondays: Things I’m Stressed About

and I hardly ever get stressed!

– packing and moving. i have so. much. stuff.

– leaving w. la. i’m going to miss it :(

– finally growing up, the thought of the next few years …marriage, buying a house, (in a few years) babies? am i ready?

– my mom

– living with new people in a house that’s not my “own”. i’m so grateful that andy and kim are letting me stay there but i’m kind of socially awkward so it takes me awhile to get used to new people (even though they aren’t that “new”). see, i’m just being dumb! also, just getting used to new habits and environments. ugh!

Friday Links

The best part about writing these friday links is knowing it’s FINALLY FRIDAY. TGIF.

Wolf spider covered in baby spiders
– this is SOSOSO gross. i warned you.
The world’s scariest runways – the only ones in america are DC’s and JFK’s….both of which I’ve flown into!
On the other end…world’s 10 best airports – not surprising, none of them are in the US.
Mystery on 5th Ave. – this is kind of an old story but so worthy of sharing. as a puzzle lover myself….i find this SO awesome. An architect builds an elaborate scavenger hunt into a family’s apt….it’s amazing!
A photo tour of Pixar – definitely one of those cool companies to work at
The twisted films of Pes – very cool and unique films…check out their latest one called western spaghetti!

This is so true hehe

The Great American Roadtrip

Wow, these guys are crazy. They did the ultimate roadtrip through all 48 states non-stop. It took them 106 hours but they lived to blog about it. I commend them for doing it but what’s the point if you can’t stop and enjoy all of the stops along the way? Check out their blog for all the details on their trip…sounds like they had a great time! Roadtrips are so fun!

Paperbookswap

If you love reading books, you might be interested in this website that I just started using called Paperbookswap. To get started, you just upload books that you are willing to give away and in return you receive “credits” that allow you to get books back. I just uploaded some books and I already received a request for a book.

Sending books are pretty simple. They match you up with a person who wants one of your books, you go to the link to print a label. You end up printing out two sheets which have the address already on there and all you have to do is wrap the book up with the papers and tape it up. You can pay for the postage through the website for a fee or append your own postage to the outside (They tell you how much postage is needed for your particular book). It’s a pretty simple and painless process and a great way to get some new books to read!
