So I’ve been reading up on the hazards and dangers of plastic water bottles and I think I’m going to invest in a stainless steel water bottle. It seems like even those trendy SIGG bottles might be “dangerous”! I remember when Nalgene bottles were all the craze too. I bet in a few years they’ll find something dangerous with stainless steel water bottles as well. Oh well…I found the perfect water bottle so for now, I’m happy with believing that stainless steel water bottles are the safest thing to drink water out of right now. Look how cute!
Next on my list of health craze paranoia is deodorant! I keep reading about the dangers of using antiperspirants and how it can cause Alzheimer’s Disease and other stuff. Well, I’ve decided I should try to go as natural as possible while still keep myself smelling good and dry! I’ve actually been using a powder deodorant from Lush but it’s such a pain putting on. I like the ease of a roll-on so I was happy to discover this one called “the healthy deodorant”
LAVANILA The Healthy Deodorant uses beta-glucan technology to effectively fight odor while soothing, conditioning, and strengthening the skin. It goes on clean, with no sticky wetness, and delivers long-lasting, luxurious results.
I don’t know…do you believe this stuff? It seems like everything out there causes cancer or something or other now. But cancer is on the rise. I think it’s better to be safe than sorry. I am just going to try and go as natural as possible with everything I do/eat!

i think personally that most man-made items are gonna be unhealthy for you. only because of all the chemicals and things that go into them.
It’s tough to know what is going to cause anything nowadays. I think just using things in moderation and being careful is the way to go.
What’s dangerous about sigg bottles? Is it the aluminum? I those are coated inside to prevent any aluminum leakage — or so they say! Maybe it’s my imagination, but water tastes so good coming out of those containers.
This might be gross, but I don’t wear deodorant. No one has complained before, so I guess I don’t sweat that much. I didn’t know there were such risks with wearing deodorant though.
I tried Toms natural deodorant for a week long experiment. I stopped after my gf told me I noticably stank of BO.
Yeah I read about the aluminum and how their protective coating is a secret recipe so people are questioning what’s in it. who knows!
that robot stainless steel thing is so cute. *wants*
I’m always very skeptical of studies linking everyday things like deodorant to cancer. They probably did a study on mice and had them swimming in or ingesting a ton of it. Always think about the source of and motive for the study.
Hubby bought a couple stainless steel water bottles for our daughter to take to volleyball practice. She came home that night and said, “that water bottle is disgusting! It makes the water taste like blood”! I thought she must have read Twilight too many times so I took a sip just so I could tell her she was crazy but seriously, the water DID taste funky….and almost exactly like the taste I get in my mouth after I bite my tongue really hard….LOL!
That tangy taste that you get when you bite your tongue is the iron in blood. Iron is the major component in stainless steel. I don’t think you should taste it though.
They say deodorant-antiperspirant that contains aluminum causes Alzheimer’s disease, I dunno about cancer. In my opinion, you should note the ingredients on anything that you apply daily, there are a lot of cancer causing agents in a lot of the products we use today you knows really. I use Crystal deodorant which is all natural cheap, and one stick or rock lasts for a year maybe two. It doesn’t provide any scent but it does stop BO by killing the odor causing bacteria under your arms.
In case Louise ever comes back here and reads this, though others like her could benefit– please don’t shoot the messenger, but it’s extremely likely that “no one has said anything” to you because they just don’t know what to say or how to say it. It’s just such an awkward situation.
Rest assured, you probably don’t smell very fresh –whether it’s overpowering or more subtle, in a “What IS that???” kind of way– and you will never notice it yourself.
Maureen, I also get a weird iron-y taste from metal containers sometimes, so you guys aren’t crazy.
In making this choice, you have to know this is what you’re getting into, and you have to know that almost no one will ever say anything to you.
