Predict Your Child’s Future

Some things I’ve heard about lately. Do you know/think these are true?

If you measure a kid when he’s 2 years old and double that number you will get his “adult” height!

And then I just read this one that will tell you if your child will grow up to be numerate or literate depending on the length of your fingers:

Did that one work for you? Any other ones you’ve heard?

Microsoft Surface Parody

I’m sure you’ve all heard about Microsoft’s new product, the Microsoft Surface. Here’s a hilarious video mocking it.

“One day your computer will be a big ass table!”

Warning Symptons For Ovarian Cancer

Saw this and thought it would be a good thing to pass along.

Early warning signs that you might have ovarian cancer:

• abdominal pain

• feeling full quickly when eating

• and feeling a frequent or urgent need to urinate.

Women who experience these symptoms nearly every day for two or three weeks should see a doctor. ABC News medical editor Dr. Tim Johnson says, “If you have all those symptoms together and they’re new, that’s another big clue,” he said. “If they’re new symptoms and they’re persistent, absolutely talk to your doctor.”

Wicked The Musical

I forgot to blog about when I went to go see Wicked at the Pantages! I think Wicked is my new favorite musical. I haven’t seen many only Phanton of the Opera (my former favorite), Rent, The Producers, and 42nd Street. (Also Stomp, does that count?) For Wicked, we got the most amazing seats through work at a discounted price. They were orchestra and pretty much center. I’ve never splurged on orchestra seats before but they were sooo worth it! I don’t think I can sit anywhere but orchestra after this. It really makes the musical going experience unforgettable!

Wicked is based on a book about the prequel to the Wizard of Oz. It’s the story about the two witches from the movie and how the Wicked Witch of the West was perhaps not so evil after all. It’s a really entertaining story with an awesome musical score, my favorite being “Popular”.

Some interesting facts about Wicked:

  • Long-time couple Norbert Leo Butz and Michelle Federer (the original Broadway Fiyero and Nessarose) are presently engaged to be married, as are Stephanie J. Block and Sebastian Arcelus (Fiyero and Elphaba in the show’s national tour).
  • Deedee Magno Hall and Clifton Hall who currently play Nessarose and Fiyero in the National tour are a married couple.
  • During her second-to-last performance in the Broadway production of Wicked, Idina Menzel fell through the trap door used in the melting scene and broke several ribs. She was replaced by her standby Shoshana Bean. Her accident mirrors one experienced by Margaret Hamilton, the Wicked Witch of the West in the original 1939 film, who was severely burned when the trapdoor used to facilitate her exit in her opening scene malfunctioned. Idina returned to the stage for her last show, out of costume, and performed her final song. She then bowed with the rest of the cast, including her standby.
  • Kristin Chenoweth received a neck injury during her Broadway run and had to perform the show while wearing a rhinestone-covered neckbrace.
  • Onstage, the part of the mysterious lover is played by the actor who plays Fiyero but is voiced offstage by the actor who plays the Wizard.

Anyways, I just want to recommend this musical to whoever has the chance to see it. It’s really really good!

How To Get Rid Of Ants

I’ve noticed a lot of people have ant problems in their house. Here are some solutions you can try:

  • Equal parts Borax, Sugar, and Yeast – Leave where the ants hang out. Sugar attracts the ants, Yeast explodes in their tummies, and the Borax poisons them.
  • Seal up cracks and crevices where the ants could be entering
  • Scrub around entry points with a detergent (to remove the trail pheromone) and then spray a residual insecticide
  • Mix white vinegar and water (50/50 mix) and spray on water resistant areas and allow to dry
  • Sprinkle cinnamon or squirt hot sauce where you see the ants come out from
  • Use anything citrus based or a citrus oil which ants hate

Friday Links: Phillies, Costco, No Flash

Ever wondered which sports team has lost the most games? – Must suck to be a fan of them!
Consumer Reports does a Costco vs Sam’s comparison – I’ll have to say I’m partial to Costco myself
The 5 second rule is actually 30 seconds – hmm, that seems like an awfully long time!
No more need for a flash on a camera? – this would be AWESOME. I’d have to say my worst pics are the ones using a flash!

Cheapest Person I Know

I love hearing cheap people stories. It’s hilarious what people will do just to save a dollar. Here are 12 stories submitted by AOL users. Some of them are hilarious. Like this one:

Da3B says:
“We superglued a quarter to the floor so our cheap co-worker would try to get it up. Not to our surprise, he tried and tried and tried. Finally after about a week of this, he bought a $2.00 chisel to finally scrape this quarter up.”

or this one:

Jerseygirl225 says:
“My ex would quickly pass the usher so that his movie ticket wouldn’t get ripped. He would then go see a manager and say that his friends had purchased him a ticket without him knowing, and he would get his money back.”

I have a very cheap coworker who never goes out for birthday lunches except for when it’s his birthday and he gets treated! This same guy crashes retirement parties at work. Yes, he attends them even when he doesn’t know the main person retiring and eats all the fancy food they serve at those things!

I think the older I’ve gotten the more cheap money conscious I’ve become. I try to bring my lunch more often and I always search for the best prices and make use of coupons whenever I can! hehe. Anyways, I am a full supporter of being “frugal” but I don’t think people should take saving money so seriously like some of these stories. Like my coworkers always say, “You can’t take the money with you to the grave!”
