I just read about this last week and the girl was found in 48 hours! Basically, the story is a guy saw a cute girl on the subway and decided to make a website (http://www.nygirlofmydreams.com) with a drawing to track her down:
Less than 48 hours later, he gets a message from a friend of the girl who recognizes her and gets her to send a pic and it’s a match! I love how on her facebook it says she loves “anything romantic”. This is a pretty cool story to share!

I don’t know about this NY guy. Sure its romantic/slightly-stalkerish, but now their relationship is being watched by the rabid mongoloids of the internet 24/7. That’s a lot of weird pressure on the relationship.
As for the Halo 3 guy, awesome. I’m sure you girls don’t understand the time it would take to place shotguns and energy swords to spell out Marry Me, but trust me, on a manhour-basis its way more romantic that drawing some crappy picture and enlisting the internet to stalk a stranger.
Its also about 10,000 times dorkier.
But then, she could always turn him down picking up one of the letters and killing him with it.
