One More Friday Link

This one deserves its own post:

7 yr old takes a joyride in his grandmother’s durango

Be sure to check out the video, it’s hilarious. First off…that kid is 7 yrs old?! He’s as tall as me (ok, that’s not saying much but still!). And there are some choice quotes in there like when he was asked if he should be punished and he replies “no videogames for a weekend”. haha. This kid has a bright future ahead of him.

I Hate Kids Like These

One of the major stories from this week was about a 13 year old girl who had a school assignment to make a protest sign. She decided to make a sign that said “If you love our nation, stop illegal immigration.” The sign got passed around at lunch and supposedly a group of 20 latino kids started harassing her including beating her up and threatening to rape and kill her. You can read about the story here.

So guess what just came out? The girl FAKED the whole story. And get this, she caused the injuries to HERSELF and was caught on tape!!! I hope kids really do harass her now.

Does Experience Make You A Better President?

Hilary seems to want you to think so. But according to this website there really is no correlation.

Suppose you had to choose between two Presidential candidates, one of whom had spent 20 years in Congress plus had considerable other relevant experience and the other of whom had about half a dozen years in the Illinois state legislature and 2 years in Congress. Which one do you think would make a better President? If you chose #1, congratulations, you picked James Buchanan over Abraham Lincoln. Your pick disagrees with that of most historians, who see Lincoln as the greatest President ever and Buchanan as the second worst ever, better only than Warren “Teapot Dome” Harding. Both served in what was probably the most difficult period in American history, where slavery and secession tore the nation asunder.

Lynne Spears’ Allegations Against Osama Lufti

Wow, if you’ve been following the whole Britney Spears story this testimonial by Lynne Spears is so scary!!!

Click here to read it. It includes a lot of details about how Sam disables all of Britney’s phones, drugs her, and constantly lies to her.

All I can say is Sam is pretty f***ed up and I feel so sorry for Britney. It’s really sad what’s happened to her. I hope somehow she recovers and gets better.

U-Haul Settles California Class Action

If you’ve ever used U-Haul before to move, you know it’s quite a headache. Your reservation is never guaranteed so you risk the chance of not having a truck when you are supposed to have one. Which is horrible because usually people take a day off from work or make special arrangements to have the time to move! If you don’t get a truck, all of that time is wasted.

Anyways, I just read that U-Haul has settled a class action suit against them.

The settlement came amid U-Haul’s appeal of a court ruling that found it had engaged in fraudulent business practices. In the 2006 ruling, Santa Cruz Superior Court Judge Samuel S. Stevens barred U-Haul agents from promising “confirmed reservations” for one-way equipment rentals in California.

The settlement, finalized Thursday, removes that injunction but in its place requires U-Haul to pay customers $50 if it fails to honor a guaranteed reservation.

Justice served!

Scrabulous Saved?

Well it’s a couple of minutes til midnight and Scrabulous still seems to be working. Maybe they reached an agreement or got bought out!

Well either way, this gives me an excuse to post this insane list of quotes about scrabble. I can’t believe some guy compiled these! hehe.

I know a lot of people who would disagree with this statement :)

Filed under: Cool Links, Knowledge/News — girlrobot @ 8:50 am

This list from the BBC is pretty cool. It’s 100 things that we didn’t know until this year and the related article. Some interesting ones:

11. Astronauts wear nappies during launch and re-entry because they can’t stop what they’re doing should they need to urinate.

31. There is mobile phone reception from the summit of Mount Everest.

48. You can be arrested for using someone’s wi-fi network without permission.

55. Books used to be bound in human skin.

57. Sleeping on the job is tolerated in Japanese work culture, as long as you remain upright and obey certain other rules. It’s called inemuri.

70. IP addresses will run out in 2010.

Can You Guess What This Is?

This was found in a girl’s stomach:

She complained of a five-month history of pain and swelling in her abdomen, vomiting after eating and a 40-pound weight loss.

After a scan of the woman’s abdomen showed a large mass, doctors lowered a scope through her esophagus.

What did they find? A giant HAIRBALL!! Supposedly the girl had a history of eating her own hair. ughhghghgh!

George Lucas Planning TV Series

And despite it being set in a Star Wars universe, it’s not about the main characters…

It’s about the life of ROBOTS!

Right now he’s only looking for writers though so it will be awhile before we see anything concrete. I can’t wait though!

In other exciting entertainment news, did you hear about the Goonies sequel??

And also, I’m officially addicted to Heroes. I finally finished last season and am up-to-date with the new season. Is it just me or is the main villian, Sylar, kind of cute?

MMM, yes.

Lindsay Lohan gets arrested AGAIN!

Lohan – who was wearing her alcohol-detection ankle bracelet at the time of her arrest – was booked for DUI, possession of cocaine, transporting a narcotic into a custody facility and driving on a suspended license, says Padilla

The next story is about our beloved Britney. Read the whole article…something is definitely wrong with her!

Britney on the brink of a meltdown

According to multiple sources, Britney’s behavior during the interview was “nothing less than a meltdown.” She was, according to our sources, “completely out of it” during the shoot. The photos are “so bad” we’ve learned, that to publish them could “kill her career.” Apparently, Brit Brit’s eyes rolled back in her head at one point, causing her to look half dead.
Her mood was extremely erratic. She took frequent bathroom breaks, and each time she returned her mood would change. She was also completely paranoid during the entire interview, fearing at one point the ceiling was about to cave in on her.
We’ve also learned that Brit had some issues with hygiene on the set as well. At one point, Britney ordered up some fried chicken to munch on. After she chowed down, she wiped her hands on a several thousand dollar Gucci dress that she was wearing for the shoot, staining it with grease.
Our on-set spy also says that her dog pooped all over the floor, and Brit used a Chanel dress to clean it up!

Watch Sicko And Being Thankful For Your Health

Boyrobot and I finally sat down and watched Sicko online for free last night. For all of you anti-Michael Moore peeps, I’m well aware of his tactics to twist the truth to get his point across. But in the end, he does point out a glaring fact…there is a huge problem with our health care system.

Some stats:

About 18,000 people a year die prematurely because they lack insurance.

People file for bankruptcy at a rate of one every 30 seconds because of medical bills.

The average employer-based family premium rose 87 percent from 2000 to 2006, to $11,500.

Fewer than 60 percent of people under 65 have employer coverage, down from 70 percent in 1987.

It was truly heartbreaking hearing some of the stories: a mother watching her baby die because the hospital refused to service her because they were not under the Kaiser Network insurance she had, an older couple who are forced into bankrupty because the husband has had multiple heart attacks while the wife discovers she has cancer, or countless 9/11 HEROES suffering from respiration problems who are unable to seek the treatment they need because they cannot afford to. There were so many stories.

The film made us so thankful for our health. Even though we live very comfortable lives, you never know what will happen tomorrow. And with the insane amounts of money that hospitals and prescription medicine companies are allowed to charge you, how can the average american sustain a medical emergency….EVEN with insurance! As the movie pointed out, in Cuba a particular prescription cost the patient 5 cents, while in the US it was over $100 for the same exact medicine! Here are some out of pocket expenses for common medical bills:

Average day in hospital: $7,157
Burst appendix: $48,151
Fractured ankle, and a tib-fib fracture: $101,790

Do those prices seem right to you? When I was in Peru, I spent a day in the hospital including my own suite at night, had multiple blood tests, an IV, urine test, and ultrasound. Do you know what my total was? Less than $150, without insurance.

I don’t really understand a lot about the healthcare system and how it all works, but one thing is apparent: politicians and healthcare companies are greedy and working together to screw us over

After watching the movie, I also realized I REALLY want to move to France.

Go watch the movie, it’s free!
