GR/Qeeper First Ever Giveaway!

Filed under: Fun — girlrobot @ 11:14 pm

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

It’s been an exciting year for myself as I’ve been seriously delving into the world of blogging. I now have two blogs I consistently update (girlrobot.net and qeeper.com). Anyways, it’s been really cool watching my blogs grow, getting to know other bloggers, and finding people that actually like what I write! It’s a pretty time consuming process, but one I really enjoy. To help grow the readership and to show my appreciation for current readers, I wanted to start my first ever giveaway! I debated on several things to give away but I finally settled on something that I would love to receive and I think most others could enjoy as well. Since I live in Los Angeles and am close to a lot of asian stores, I have a great selection of Asian snacks to choose from. So the prize will be:

A variety box of Asian/Japanese candy and snacks (including but not limited to pocky sticks, rice crackers, japanese gummy candy and other unusual japanese candy, etc)!!! I will also throw in some of my favorite candy ever, those Ikea gummy cars I posted about awhile ago haha.

I promise, if you enjoy trying new food….I won’t disappoint!

Basically, it will be a box similar to these (as taken from the Snacks From Around the World community):

So what do you need to do to win this thing??

Well there are 4 easy ways. You can even do all 4 of them for a total of 6 entries (two are worth 2 entries)! I’ll start with the easiest one.

1. Use my contact form and tell me what you like/don’t like about my blog(s). Or if even that is too much for you, just tell me you’d like to enter my giveaway hehe. Please be sure to leave your REAL email address since if you don’t, I have no way of contacting you if you win! Also, please use giveaway for the subject. Worth 1 entry.

2. Add me to your blogroll or links page. Usually I can see from my incoming links if you’ve linked to me but to be sure you’ll probably want to email me with the URL where you’ve placed the link. Worth 1 entry.

3. Subscribe to my RSS feed. I recommend using Google Reader. Over the next couple of weeks, I will display a special word at the bottom of my RSS posts. Just email me what the word is. You can use my contact form, email me at kim at girlrobot dot net, or even aim me at dustofconfusion. Worth 2 entries.

4. Make a blog post about one or both of my blogs: girlrobot.net and/or qeeper.com. You can write a full on review or even just a short line like “Check out these cool blogs I’ve been reading (insert girlrobot.net and/or qeeper.com)”. Worth 2 entries.

Easy, huh? Again, if you do 1-4, you’ll have a total of 6 entries submitted in my giveaway. Or if you only want to do 1, that’s fine too!

Contest ends December 16th so get your entries in! :)

PS. I will be using a random number generator to pick the winner.
PSS. I don’t know how many people will actually join this giveaway but you probably have a really good chance of winning if you enter! :)

magicJack

I’ve been reading about this cool gadget on a lot of tech websites so I thought I would post about it since it makes a great gift for anybody who talks on the phone a lot. The gadget is called a magicJack and it allows you to make unlimited local and long distance phone calls for $20 a year!

All you do is plug it into your USB port and plug any corded or cordless handset in and you’ve got yourself a phone! The actual magicJack costs $40 which includes service and after that it’s just $20 a year. This is also a great gadget for travelling!

It’s been getting great reviews. Here is a good quote that sums up this gadget:

It’s way easier to use than Skype, way cheaper than Vonage, and way cool to boot.

Can You Guess What This Is?

This was found in a girl’s stomach:

She complained of a five-month history of pain and swelling in her abdomen, vomiting after eating and a 40-pound weight loss.

After a scan of the woman’s abdomen showed a large mass, doctors lowered a scope through her esophagus.

What did they find? A giant HAIRBALL!! Supposedly the girl had a history of eating her own hair. ughhghghgh!

Last Minute Thanksgiving Recipes

Thanksgiving is all about the FOOD for me. So here are some recipes that caught my eye!

Pumpkin Pie Blintzes
Homemade Cranberry Sauce - so easy!
Store bought stuffing mix showdown - i used trader joe’s
No knead bread in a hurry - i still need to try making this
Roasted brussel sprouts - i have some weird obsession with brussel sprouts right now hehe
Pumpkin Cinnamon Rolls
Mac N Cheese - my friend’s macncheese recipe was loosely based on this one!

And here’s a recipe for pumpkin fritters that I saved but forgot from where…

Pumpkin Fritters

Ingredients

2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 tbsp salt
1 tbsp baking powder
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

1 cup milk
2 large eggs
3 cups grated, raw pumpkin
1 cup frozen or drained canned corn kernels

Mix the flour, salt, baking powder, and nutmeg together in a large bowl. Add the milk and eggs and stir until mixed. Add the pumpkin and corn kernels. In a deep fryer or heavy pan, heat enough vegetable oil for deep frying. The oil should be very hot, 375*. Drop three or four large spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil. Let them cook for three or four minutes, turning once, or until they just start to brown. Remove them to dry on paper towels. Serve immediately drizzled with maple syrup.

Migraine Remedies

Lucky for me, I don’t suffer from migraines but I know a few people who do. My sister, offered this great tip for anyone who suffers from a migraine. It worked within an hour for boyrobot who had a migraine for almost 3 days! Her tip?

Take Motrin IB, lay down, and try to nap for at least 30 minutes

Pretty simple, huh? I guess the most important part is to not waste your time with the other pills like Tylenol or Advil which don’t seem to work well against migraines. Tell me if it worked for you or if you have tips for curing a migraine!
